Routine Dental Care for Patients in Bryn Mawr, MD
For your first dental visit, we will typically provide:
- Dental Cleanings
- Digital X-Rays
- Oral Cancer Screening
- Gum Disease Screening
- Dental Consultation
One of the most important ways to maintain a smile is dental prophylaxis, or teeth cleaning. This deep cleaning treatment maintains the health of the teeth and gums. There are several stages to this cleaning. First, our hygienists clean the gum line with scaling tools. Next, they remove bacterial plaque and calculus from the gums. Then, they remove bacteria from the gum pockets. Then, our hygienists perform root planing treatment. Root planing eliminates bacteria from the tooth roots and helps the roots reattach to the teeth. Finally, we place an antibiotic or antimicrobial cream in the gum pockets.
Oral Cancer and Gum Disease Screenings
We look for early signs of gum disease and oral cancer at routine visits. Early signs of periodontitis can include red, swollen, bleeding, and irritated gums. Patients who have gum disease may have gum pockets or loose teeth. We provide scaling and root planing treatments if patients have gum disease symptoms. Additionally, we will make a treatment plan for our patients if we need additional treatment. The most common signs of oral cancer that we look for at routine visits are chronic mouth sores and white or red patches in the mouth.

Our office accepts a variety of types of dental insurance. Please call our office before your first visit to determine which services your insurance covers.
How often should I visit the dentist?
We recommend that patients visit our office for routine visits every six months or twice a year. At regular appointments, we offer deep cleaning treatments. We also find any signs of developing dental problems.
What do I do if I have a dental emergency?
If you require urgent dental care, please contact our office as soon as possible. If you have lost or broken a tooth, apply gentle pressure to the tooth or tooth socket. Do not try to reinsert lost teeth or broken restorations. Instead, call our dental office, and we will help.
Will you take x-rays at every dental visit?
We typically take x-rays every 2 to 3 years. Our team may also recommend taking x-rays on a more frequent basis if patients require orthodontic care, tooth extractions, and restorative dental care. These regular x-rays help us determine if patients require care for emerging dental problems. They also show the progression of the smile over time.
